Richard Shortman
Richard Shortman grew up in Epsom, where he still lives and joined Wolf Cubs at the age of 8. His first camp as a Scout was at Walton Firs when he walked there as part of his Second Class Badge. He carried on through Scouting, becoming a Venture Scout and gaining his Queens Scout Award. He ran a Scout Troop for l5 years and frequently used Walton Firs as a camp site. He is still actively involved in Scouting.
When it was known that Walton Firs Campsite was to be sold, he entered into negotiations with The Scout Association for the purchase of the site, was a member of the Surrey Scouts Management Committee that ran the site for a year whilst the money to purchase the site was raised, and has been a Director ever since.
Professionally, Richard works for a London Borough as Democratic Services Manager. That means he has responsibility for ensuring that all Council and Committee meetings are properly organised, that all elections run smoothly and that the office and dignity of the Mayor is upheld. He is also a member of his local Church where he is Sacristan.
