Patience Baden-Powell Centre - Now Open
24th June 2012 - Official Opening!
The new building is finished and furnished and on the 24th June 2012 assisted by two Scouts and two Guides, Lord Baden-Powell cut the ribbon and declared the Patience Baden-Powell Centre OPEN. To ensure that no-one missed the opening ceremony, bandsmen from the Kingston & Malden Scout & Guide Band climbed the Climbing Wall to sound a fanfare. Lord Baden-Powell spoke of the great acheivment of saving the site and praised the work of all those who have contributed to development of activities and facilities which benefit the young people of Surrey and further afield.
April and May 2012 Update:
Most of the work is now going on inside the new building. With the doors and windows in place, the internal fittings can be safely installed whatever the weather. Teams of volunteers drawn from the Staff, the Patrons plus the Chairman of the Management Group (right) have pitched in to paint first the shop, then the upstairs office. Pcitured here are Cliff Palmer, left, and David Gardner, right.
February and March 2012 Update:
Now the Centre is weathertight the outside image will not alter much. The real work is going on inside with teams of plumbers and electricians working side by side. Deliveries of floor tiles, paving slabs and other building materials have become a common sight. We are still optomistic about moving in during early April 2012.
January 2012 Update:
No time has been lost in pressing on with this essential work. Despite the rain and cold work goes on. Windows and doors have been fitted, soon to be followed by underfloor heating and insulation. The team from Boxgrove Developments Ltd are on site and looking forward to some dryer days. www.boxgrovedevelopmentsltd.com
December 2011 Update:
Good progress building the roof during the sunshine means that our roofers were hard at work applying the slates. 'The roof will be on for Christmas' they said, and indeed it was.
November 2011 Update:
A substantial amount of timber frame work has been completed. It is now possible to visualise the new shop and office. The weather has not been so kind, but work has pressed on and the build is still on target.
October 2011 Update:
The footings have been dug and the small walls erected. Stonework prepared and donated by Cliff Palmer has been sited in the brickwork and Round Wood are onsite delivering and erected the oak frame for the new build.
Work Begins:
At last the Planning Office has passed the amended plans for the Patience Baden-Powell Centre, as drawn up by David Gardner who listened to input from many sources and responded with a great solution.
The Patience Baden-Powell Centre will include a reception area, to be the hub of the activity centre, a shop, an area which can be used for training and meetings, and space for offices.
The existing building will come down after the summer season and the new one will be ready next Easter, with your help.
