A parents perspective...
I would like to add my experience of Walton Firs from a parent's perspective.
During the time my son was a Cub and Scout, he visited Walton Firs many times for camps and pre-summer camp training sessions.
He always had a wonderful time with his friends and leaders, enjoying many experiences and sports that he would not have been able to do otherwise.
The Family Activity Days at Walton Firs, organised by 1st Hersham Scouts have always been happy occasions, when parents and their families can get together in a relaxed setting to enjoy a great day out.
The fact that camps can be enjoyed by so many young people so close to home is a wonderful thing. Walton Firs is a great asset to the scouting community and must not be lost.
At a time when there is national focus on problems of obesity, lack of social cohesion an obsession with "hoodies" and anti-social behaviour, Scouting as a whole provides a wonderful opportunity for hundreds of boys (and now girls) to participate in a wide range of activities and experiences, promoting friendship, equality and a sense of community. Walton Firs offers all these things - and more - in our local community so all can participate at an affordable cost to all. It must be saved for future generations!
