Newsletter Number 14 July 200We are pleased to confirm that the purchase of Walton Firs was completed by the Foundation, as planned, on Friday 27th June. Our fundraising over the last two years has been astounding and the level of support we have enjoyed from the community has been fantastic.
The amount we needed to borrow to complete the purchase was a little over £36,000 and the board of the Foundation put in place an interest free borrowing for a period to 31st December in the hope and expectation that this final amount will be raised over the next few months.
Fund Raising
We have received a marvellous proposition which we hope will expand the network of individuals who may help to support the final funding needed to clear the borrowing on the purchase of Walton Firs, and help with purchase costs and our working capital.
We have confirmation of a supporter who will pledge to pay on the 31st July 2008 an amount of up to £15,000, matching all individual donations over £100 received during July for Walton Firs.
If we can between us find individuals prepared to donate these amounts this will enable us to reach 100% of our target and clear the final borrowing.
Please, if you can, ask all who might support us and mail cheques, together with a Gift Aid Certificate, to:
Walton Firs Foundation Hillbrow House Hillbrow Road Esher Surrey KT10 9NW
This is an enormous opportunity for us to clear the position and provide perhaps some funds for working capital. If we can all put our thoughts together as to where we can find the further £15,000 from amongst individual supporters we will finally be clear, be able to concentrate on the ongoing organisation of Walton Firs and begin to put into place the improvements to the Camp Site and Activity Centre.
Management of Walton Firs
The management of Walton Firs was taken on by the Foundation on the 1st July.
Surrey Scouts had taken on the management of Walton Firs for the period of our fundraising and during the Option, which we had put in place to purchase the Activity Centre. We are very grateful for their help and support in managing the site during that time, and look forward to a continuing great use of Walton Firs Camp Site and Activity Centre by many of the organisations within Surrey Scouts.
As you may already all know, Sue and Dave McIntosh, the Wardens on the site, will be continuing in their positions. We are now endeavouring to recruit secretarial support to assist the Foundation in the development and organisation of both the Management Group and a Friends of Walton Firs support team, to ensure that those enjoying the use of the site and retaining responsibility for the management of the organisation can rely on a broad network of enthusiastic supporters of the retention of Walton Firs.
Friday 4th July
We look forward to seeing many of you on the evening of Friday 4th July at our planned celebration and hope that we can secure by the 31st July a positive response to the final donations needed to clear the position on the outstanding borrowing.
Next Newsletter
The next newsletter will be one which deals much more with the organisation and activities at Walton Firs, rather than the need to raise money. We therefore now move on with high hopes and expectations to the next phase of the permanent future of Walton Firs.
