Newsletter No 3 - The purchase of Walton Firs

Donations so Far

I am pleased to say that at the end of August we had £140,000 in the bank and now have potential additional pledges of a further £160,000 so that hopefully, within the next few weeks, we will have £300,000 towards our target of £800,000.

Donations Now

We need clearly to make much more progress towards our target and if you have suggestions as to contacts we can make, please send them through to funds@waltonfirs.co.uk.

In particular, we need people who can help with contacts to:

  • Rotary
  • Round Table
  • Lions
  • Chamber of Commerce
  • Direct company contacts

All of these potential contacts can be followed up with individuals from the Foundation, in conjunction with those who have the direct contact, since in this way, a much more targeted and personal approach can be undertaken.

Brochures

We need to distribute the brochures further and if you have ideas as to where these can be left, together with perhaps Standing Order Forms, please also drop us a note.

Our Gala Event

This has now been confirmed for Painshill on 9th June 2007.  If you would like tickets, please contact Cliff Palmer at cliffpal@tiscali.co.uk.

Detailed information on this exciting event will soon be put on to the website.

Founder Members

We anticipate that Leatherhead Scout District will become the first Founder Member by raising £20,000 from a charitable source in the District which will entitle Leatherhead District then to 10% reduction in camp fees at Walton Firs.

Founder membership is open to organisations until 30th June 2007 for an initial donation of £20,000.

Press Publicity

We have been successful in obtaining much press publicity and are seeking to secure some national press coverage, as there will be many supporters of Walton Firs living outside of the South East of England who we are certain would wish to secure the site’s retention for the future.

We have also been able to obtain a radio interview of Dave McIntosh, the Warden, all of which has helped to raise the profile of our fund-raising exercise.

Annual General Meeting

The first Annual General Meeting of the Foundation will be held on 18th September next year, by which time we hope to be well on the way to securing our final target.

Help Needed

We need help to deal with:

  1. The organisation of a raffle.
  2. To find some individuals who might like to organise a charitable golf day in support of the Walton Firs purchase price.
  3. Groups of individuals who may be able to assist in other fund-raising activities, including the Corporate Day at Walton Firs in 2007 to entertain and show to corporate sponsors the facilities at the site and perhaps to also help at fund-raising events opened up to us by other organisations elsewhere close by.

If you are able to offer help for an occasional event, please let us know.

Website

Please ensure that you put on to the website information on fund-raiding activities so that the support for participation is broadened.

Next Fund-Raising Meeting

The next Fund-Raising Liaison Meeting will be held on 1st February 2007 at 8 pm. in St. James’ Church Hall in Weybridge.
