Newsletter No 1 The Purchase of Walton FirsProgress so FarWalton Firs Foundation has now been incorporated as a company limited by guarantee and an application made to the Charity Commissioners for registration of the company as a charitable organisation. We do however, still need to hold back from formal fund-raising activities as the agreement with Scout Headquarters for the purchase of Walton Firs has not yet been completed. This was, at the request of Headquarters, to have been put in place by 31st December, but solicitors acting for Surrey Scouts and Walton Firs Foundation have not yet received the Agreement for implementation. There is little we can therefore do, other than to continue to prepare ourselves to raise the monies that will ultimately be required for the purchase and hopefully in the next newsletter we will be able to confirm more positive news on progress towards finalising the agreement for purchase. Much preparation work is being undertaken by many people and by the committees to handle the different areas of fund-raising and the liaison which will be necessary. If you know of anyone else prepared to help or have names you might like to suggest who could help, please let Rob Woolford know at rob.woolford@dixcart.co.uk What we would also like to have are commitments of financial support once the fund-raising does get underway, so that we can become increasingly confident of our ability to work towards meeting our target. If you can commit to support, an acknowledgement of this would be much appreciated and a pledge to contribute an agreed amount on the 30th June 2006 would greatly help. Walton Firs PatronsWe are continuing to seek individuals of reputation and standing who would be prepared to become a Patron of Walton Firs. This is not a financial commitment, but a commitment of visible support. An opportunity for Patrons to visit Walton Firs has been organised for the 7th May, as we are certain a visit to the site will inspire some greater support. If you have contact with individuals you think could become Patrons and be helpful in supporting our fund-raising activities, once underway, please confirm the contact arrangements to Derek Pollard who will follow up each potential opportunity with you. Derek Pollard’s email address is: drpollard@charterdale.fsnet.co.uk A list of those people who have agreed to become Patrons will be in the next newsletter, and will be posted on the website. Supporters Day The Walton Firs Supporters Day this year is the 24th June. Invitations to supporters will be sent out from Walton Firs and by then, we will hopefully have some of the fund-raising items for sale. Distribution of the NewsletterDistribution of this newsletter is going to be by email only to keep costs at a low level. Hopefully access will be available to all through email and if you know of others who would like to receive copies of this newsletter, please ensure they register their email address through the website at Waltonfirs.co.uk. Big Fund-Raising EventOur major fund-raising event will be on the 9th June 2007 and will involve an evening Ball at Painshill Park in Cobham, from where you could very nearly hit a golf ball to Walton Firs. We expect the event to be star studded and fun. Please keep the date free as much help and participation will be needed. A Marathon EffortTo help get the fundraising going for The Walton Firs Foundation two brave people have volunteered to run the London Marathon on April 23rd this year. John Brown is the County Treasurer and secured his place this year by helping at the finish line last year so has seen what he is letting himself in for. David Creigh is an ACSL with the Panther Cub Pack at 1st Claygate and this will be his second year taking on this tough challenge. To support David and John with this great effort please contact them directly to let them know how much you would like to sponsor them on behalf of The Walton Firs Foundation. You can reach David on david.creigh@bigfoot.com and John on Jandvbrown@aol.com. Next MeetingThe next meeting of all of those interested in helping and participating in the fund-raising activities is scheduled for 8 pm. at Painshill Park on the 24th April 2006. This meeting is for anyone who is interested in helping with the fund-raising ideas. Please keep the date clear and forward on this newsletter to anyone you know who you think can contribute to the fund-raising activities now to be put in place and extend an invitation to them to the meeting at Painshill Park. Increasing information will become available on the website. Please log on there to receive updates, view what is happening and to record your email address to receive newsletter updates. 03-04-2006 - more news... |
